Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Paralegal will be responsible for providing assistance with general legal and business matters including contract administration, claims and litigation, dealer and franchisee relations, vendor relations, corporate governance, securities, and other special projects. This opportunity is located in Delaware, Ohio.
Provides assistance by serving as lead on projects, processes and requests from intake to resolution. Project or problem resolution involves assessment, data gathering/research that routinely includes contacting multiple sources for relevant information both internally and externally, analysis, and recommendations for action. Majority of work is completed on a generally independent basis, functioning with minimal oversight on a daily basis and contact with business customers who often only deal with the paralegal. Analyzes and develops solutions to a variety of complex problems.
Responsibilities: Consistently exercise independent judgment to identify potential legal issues in area of expertise and seek attorney review where appropriate Effectively negotiate contract terms with external parties, such as vendors, claimants, franchisees and dealers, and service providers. Counsel internal clients to recommend best course of action through clearly articulating the risk and reward of proposed actions. Escalate high risk issues or specific issues, in accordance with Law Department procedures, to supervising lawyer. Research and accurately interpret and apply applicable laws and statutes federal, state, foreign laws and regulations, etc. as applicable. Draft, review, and edit complex documents involving standard and non-standard terms. Oversee and manage legal operations processes for the Law Department. Manage small claims and consumer complaints. Manage legal holds, discovery and data collection in support of all litigated matters and insured claims
Required Skills: Must complete projects by applicable deadlines. Must be proactive and take ownership of the projects and tasks assigned by the Law Department or internal clients. Must be able to work independently with little instruction on day-to-day work and general instructions on new assignments. Must have strong organizational, analytical, project and process management and written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to understand substantive legal concepts, legal research and documents, contracts, procedures and terminology. Must have the ability to interact professionally and effectively with senior executives, Board members, and outside counsel. Must thrive on the challenge of a fast-paced environment and work autonomously to drive numerous projects and meet multiple demands simultaneously. Excellent written & verbal communication skills and outstanding time-management skills. Candidates with a mixed background of corporate and litigation paralegal experience are preferred.
